What to have ready

Documents they may ask for

  • Government ID for everyone in your household, if available
  • A copy of your lease or rent agreement
  • Recent rent receipt, ledger, or proof of what you owe
  • Recent pay stubs, benefit statement, or income proof
  • ODSP, Ontario Works, CPP, OAS, or other benefit statement if you have one
  • Recent bank statement, if the program asks for it

What to say when you call

Hi, I found your housing support program and I want to check if I can apply. Can you tell me the current rules, documents needed, and the next step?

Use the official page first, then call 211 if you are not sure where to start.

Can I get this?

You have a good chance if this sounds like you:

  • This program is closed to new applicants
  • If you already get it, you keep getting it until it winds down

What to do next

Check off each step as you go — we'll remember where you are.

The fine print

The full eligibility rules

Closed to new applicants since July 2018. Existing SRHS clients continue to receive monthly benefits until administration winds down; those on SIS or SAID will have the SRHS amount folded into their regular monthly payment, and clients not on other income assistance will be supported to apply for the Saskatchewan Housing Benefit (and, for working families with children, the Saskatchewan Employment Incentive).

Good to know

Included for completeness because it still surfaces in searches, but it is closed to new applicants and ends by August 31, 2026 - new renters should be directed to the Saskatchewan Housing Benefit instead. Closure date and transition path read directly from saskatchewan.ca. Benefit amount left blank because the current page no longer publishes a rate (program is winding down).
