Canada-New Brunswick Housing Benefit (Direct-to-Tenant Rent Benefit)

This gives you money paid right to you to help with rent in New Brunswick. Important: it is not taking new applications right now because this year's funding is fully used up. Applications already sent in are still being reviewed.

What to say when you call

Hi, I am looking for housing help. Can you tell me if this program fits my situation, what documents I need, and whether there is anyone who can help me apply?

Use the official page first, then call 211 if you are not sure where to start.

Can I get this?

You have a good chance if this sounds like you:

  • You qualify if you rent in New Brunswick, file your taxes each year, and do not get Housing NB subsidies
  • Your home must have its own sleeping, living, kitchen, and bathroom areas not shared with others

The fine print

The full eligibility rules

New Brunswick renters who file annual taxes and do not receive Housing NB subsidies, whose housing has separate sleeping, living, kitchen and bathroom areas not shared with people outside the household. Income: single employed adults under 65 between $12,500 and $50,000/year; adults 65+ and families must have combined income of all adults 19+ in the home under $58,000/year (before tax).

Good to know

Closed-to-new-applications status and the income eligibility ranges ($12,500-$50,000 for single employed adults under 65; under $58,000 combined for 65+/families) confirmed verbatim against the official gnb.ca DTT page. The page does not state a dollar amount for the benefit, so benefit_amount is left blank rather than guessed. Application status can change between fiscal years; verify current status before relying on it.
