Yukon Supplementary Allowance

This adds $250 a month on top of social assistance if you cannot work because of a severe or long-term disability, or if you get (or are old enough to get) Old Age Security. It helps with living costs including housing. You can also earn up to $3,900 a year that does not count as income.

What you get

Up to $250/month

Who it's for

You qualify if you live in Yukon, are 19 or older, get or can get social assistance, and either cannot work because of a severe or long-term disability or get Old Age Security (or have reached the age to get it).

The fine print

More details about the money

$250 per month. If you are eligible, you can also earn up to $3,900 per year that is not calculated as part of your annual income.

Amounts and eligibility change. Confirm the current figure with the program administrator through the official link before you rely on it.

The full eligibility rules

Yukon residents 19 years or older who receive, or are eligible for, social assistance, and who are either assessed as unemployed because of a severe or long-term disability, or are receiving Old Age Security (or have reached an age at which they can receive it).

Good to know

The $250/month amount, the $3,900/year earnings exemption, the 19+ requirement, the disability-or-OAS eligibility test and the 867-667-5674 contact were confirmed from the live Yukon.ca page. CORRECTED from the draft: the official wording for the seniors path is 'receiving Old Age Security, or reached an age that you can receive it' (OAS eligibility age is 65), not a flat '65 or older'. This is a general living-cost top-up that functions as shelter-cost support for social assistance recipients.
