Housing Stability Bank (London)

This is a London rent bank run by the Salvation Army Centre of Hope. It gives you a loan with no interest to cover rent you owe or last month's rent. If you get ODSP, it can also cover first month's rent. It also helps with gas, electricity, or water bills you owe, first as a grant and then as a no-interest loan once grant money runs out.

What you get

Emergency rent money

Who it's for

You qualify if you have a low income, live in London, are housed, and are at risk of losing your home.

What to say when you call

Hi, I need help paying my rent and I may be behind. Can you tell me what emergency rent help is open, what documents I need, and the fastest way to apply?

Use the official page first, then call 211 if you are not sure where to start.

Can I get this?

You have a good chance if this sounds like you:

  • You qualify if you have a low income, live in London, are housed, and are at risk of losing your home
  • First month's rent help is only for people on ODSP
  • A worker reviews your situation; the official pages do not list set income limits

The fine print

More details about the money

Interest-free loans for rental arrears, last month's rent, and (ODSP recipients only) first month's rent. Utility arrears (gas/electricity/water) are covered by grants until the annual grant funds are exhausted, then by interest-free loans. Specific dollar caps are not published on the official source.

Amounts and eligibility change. Confirm the current figure with the program administrator through the official link before you rely on it.

The full eligibility rules

Low-income London residents who are housed but at risk of homelessness. First-month's-rent help is limited to ODSP recipients. Eligibility and need are assessed at intake; the official pages do not publish specific income cutoffs.

Good to know

Confirmed on the Salvation Army Centre of Hope page: interest-free loans for rental arrears, first month's rent (ODSP only) and last month's rent; utility help is a grant until annual grant funds run out, then an interest-free loan. The page does NOT publish dollar caps, income cutoffs, or a once-per-12-months rule, so none are asserted. 519-661-0343 is the Centre of Hope general number listed on the source (not a dedicated HSB application line). [Merged from multiple program listings.]
